Every year, over 23 million people in Europe fall ill from unsafe food, leading to 5,000 death cases.

Food contamination is mostly monitored in plants using time consuming methods with analysis time of up to a week. By that time, some of the contaminated products are released to the market and consumed. This food testing paradox is demonstrated by the enormous rate of 50 weekly recalls across the EU and USA.

The Technion developed a technology for sensitive, real time detection of analytes, validated in different environments. The technology is based on several concentration techniques in "lab on a chip" format. Our goal is to integrate the technology into food safety products and services, such as the one developed by SwissDeCode, to obtain testing results in real time.

Our solutions will improve society well-being and minimize recalls, as well as improve production efficiency by early detection of contamination, decrease production loss and reduce the amount of ingredients or finish goods on hold.
